WMTV) -- Friends and family held a fundraiser for Maddie Feldman on Saturday at Rudes Lanes to help pay for medical bills and support her family. NBC15 first learned of Maddie's story when her teacher won the 2017 Crystal Apple Award, an NBC15 award thanking teachers across southern Wisconsin. Two years ago, Maddie was diagnosed with a brain tumor. She has had three surgeries and has been going through chemotherapy for the past year. "The chemotherapy's been tough," said Shawn Feldman, Maddie's dad. "She's missed a lot of school, she's missed a lot. But, you know, she's definitely a tough little girl." Maddie's parents said that their daughter has stayed strong throughout the process. "She's going through probably the toughest thing anybody can go through, kid or adult, and you know, she still wants to play, she still wants to just be a kid," Maddie's dad said. Saturday's fundraiser featured plenty of food, bowling and music for everyone to enjoy. The fundraiser also included a silent auction and a raffle, which helped raised almost $2,000. The family also set up a GoFundMe page to help them with some of their expenses. Maddie's parents said they appreciate the support of everyone in their community. "We didn’t expect this, we never expect strangers, friends, anybody, but this community has really, really reached out and helped us more than we could have ever expected," Shawn Feldman said. Maddie finishes chemotherapy in about six weeks. After that, her dad said she will go back in for more scans at the end of the year to check on her progress. ...
